Howto: Detecting undetected Virus

Most of us will trust one antivirus solution. But one should remember no one antivirus solution is perfect. Detecting 100% virus in the wild is imposible for an antivirus. Another solution to this problem is to reinstall your antivirus until you find the antivirus which detect that particular virus. Brilliant solution? Partly, but i`ll say thats stupid. I think the best way to detect undetected virus is to use VirusTotal solution.

VirusTotal is a FREE service which u can send unidentified virus or suspicious files to be scan by various antivirus engine. By using this service u can stick to your favourite antivirus and still detect unidentified virus. After the unidentified virus detected by VirusTotal u can use google to remove the virus manually and send the sample and the virus name to your favourite antivirus solution. Now, how do i use this VirusTotal?

  • Create a new message with
scan@virustotal.com as destination address of your email.
  • Write SCAN in the Subject field (write SCAN- if you do not want to distribute your sample to any AV company).
  • Attach the file to be scanned. Such file must not exceed 10 MB in size. If the attached file is larger, the system will reject it automatically.
  • You will receive an email with a report of the file analysis. Response time will vary depending on the load of the system at the time of placing your request.
