Essential Hypertension is a common condition which requires lifelong treatment. It can be silent but if not treated will lead to serious complications. While most of my patients may comply to take their medications, almost all of them find it’s too difficult to restrict salt intake. Restricting sodium intake is a good non pharmacological measures, better if combine with weight loss. Living in Malaysia with heavens of food brings hells to my patients. Now, restricting salt intake is not only benefiting patients, but reduce your risk for cardiovascular diseases by 25 % and deaths from cardiovascular diseases by 20 %. This is based on a follow-up study between 1980s and 1990s. So next time you’re buying any processed food please check the sodium content. Ohh, one more thing, don’t u forget to remind your wife to throw away any extra salt!
