How to prevent lighting strike? Get a Nokia

MMR note on how to prevent lightning attack was not entirely correct with advance of technology. Let me quote MMR on how to prevent lightning strike or to stay alive during the thunderstorms.

1. Get shelter
2. Do not carry any metal objects
3. Do not use your mobile phone outdoors, or even your telephone indoors

The third point could be obsolete when Nokia add lightning detector on their phone. In the near future, a mobile phone could be a lifesaver instead of a killer.

 

The invention involves the use of radio frequency receivers in mobile phones, such as FM radio and GSM (global system for mobile communications), to detect radio waves emitted by lightning. Typical lightning bolts produce frequencies between 10Hz and 5GHz.

A special software program designed by Nokia analyzes the signals, calculates the distance to the lightning and informs users of imminent strikes.

  4. err..actually, i don’t really understand. what does a lightning detector do? detect lightnings? how would it save ppl from lightning? can u pls elaborate. Thanks! ^_^ would love to know more =)
